Background and Competence

proQuantis (www.proquantis.de) is an SME organization that evolved, guided by Prof. Dr. G. Schiefer, from the University of Bonn about 25 years ago. It utilizes results from basic research on innovative managerial and organizational models for food safety, food quality, economic sustainability and environmental concerns, transfers them into operational support systems for use in SMEs, food chain networks or policy, and engages in research for their continuous improvement, development, and integration in various scenarios. Its portfolio includes a.o. tracking/tracing and quality management solutions for agricultural trade that are being used by several hundred enterprises, the management of a tracking/tracing and quality management solution that covers a specific food sector, an advisory tool for the identification, selection and implementation of innovative business models, a database tool for network selection and network development support, and extensive utilization of Artificial Intelligence in consulting activities throughout Europe.

Project Experience

Prof. Schiefer and his network have extensive experience in national and European research projects related to a broad range of subjects related to food chains, food networks, and food system activities including the European projects Cowinhy (Best practice guides; FP6), MoniQA (NoE for harmonization in food safety/quality; FP6), e-Trust (Trust in chains/networks; FP6, coord.), QPorkchains (Quality in chains; FP6), Cuteloop (Customer loops in chains; FP7), Netgrow (Network learning and innovation, FP7), Transparent_Food (Transparency in Food Chains, FP7, coordinator), SALSA (Knowledge based Food Chains, FP7), SmartAgriFood (Smart Food and Agribusiness, FP7), TransFOP (Transparency in Pricing, FP7), FoodSEG (European Network for Food Safety Research, FP7), FIspace (Future Internet Business Collaboration Networks in Agri-Food, Transport and Logistics, FP7), Finish (Food Intelligence and Information Sharing for Business Collaboration enabled by the Future Internet, FP7), Rubizmo (Replicable business models for modern rural economies, Horizon2020), and ECO-Ready (Horizon Europe).

International Engagement

The company is guided by scientists active in the field who, under the leadership of Prof. Schiefer, have extensive experience in international research and the organization of international events. They edit the ‘International Journal on Food System Dynamics’ published by Brill/deGruyter and coordinated for 20 years the annual ‘International European Forum on System Dynamics and Innovation in Food Networks’ (www.fooddynamics.org) supported by major European and international scientific associations in the field such as the European Association of Agricultural Economists (EAAE) or the International Food and Agribusiness Management Association(IFAMA). Prof. Schiefer and his colleagues build on a broad network among science, industry and IT system development groups.
